Short, in-class assignment, we had to do an illustration for a short story called "The Mountain Man" (I don't remember the author... oops.)

John Dies at the End

Most of you have probably never heard of John Dies at the End by David Wong, so I'm here to tell you that is is a GREAT BOOK and if you like demons, gore, swearing, and general hilarity you should check it out.
Now that that's out of the way, here is a cover I designed for it as a final for our class with #1 Cool Dude Sam Bosma! Also a few spot illustrations for select chapters.

DORA

Project for one of my classes last year, I re-imagined Dora the Explorer as a young adult fantasy/adventure series. It was really fun to research the show and try to figure out how to make it translate in a darker tone (pretty difficult in some ways!) A really enjoyable project overall, I'd love to try doing something similar with other kids shows.

The Art of Having Problems

So those illustrations of my life story a few posts back were part of an assignment everyone in my class did. Theoretically, if we were good writers and actually cared, all of our illustrations and writings could be put together in a nice tidy book of short stories. It is very hard to come up with a title/cover for something that really has not theme whatsoever besides a bunch stories of kids being awkward. So here's what I came up with: tea party foul.

In conjunction with illustrating my 8th grade prom, I did some things for David Sedaris' short story, 'A Guy Walks Into A Bar Car.' It's a nice story about meeting guys on trains and thinking about life and what might have been.

For this assignment we had to collage pictures of accessories into our piece and make an advertisement of sorts. Of course, I couldn't resist doing some tea-party zombie girls. I don't remember where all the accessories are from, I mostly pillaged Polyvore.

Illustration for a cocktail called the Southern Spell, which is:

• 1 oz absinthe
• 1/2 oz peach schnapps
• 4 oz ginger ale
• peach wedge

We had to illustrate it without using drinking imagery or the ingredients, so I went for a fashionable voodoo witch. Fun stuff!

Fabulous jobs

An early assignment from Lifestyle Illustration with the awesome Kali Ciesemier, we were to read articles about people with strange jobs and make them look super hip. The ones I found the most awesome were taxidermists for the Smithsonian, a falconer that keeps birds from bothering people at resorts, and a sniper hired to shoot birds on airport runways! Who knew.

Oh wow, been a while

I'm sorry I've been so bad about keeping this blog up to date! It seems to always slip my mind. An entire semester to catch up on! I guess I'll start at the beginning...

These two were a diptych for an early Illustration assignment, based on the lonely hearts ads. I didn't record the actual ads (whoops) but the first one was an amateur cage fighter looking for someone to wrestle with her, and the second is an osteopath with the largest collection of mounted albino tiger barbs, oddly enough. What a perfect match!

This is some work from Linear Perspective a few semesters ago. It was a great class, really tough but I learned a lot!

The next ones are my final, we had to do a 360º view of somewhere, so I did a dystopian-ish version of a park near the cafeteria. The first one is the whole thing, but it's super small due to being really long so there's a little close-up afterwards.
